Under the bed in the dark,
that’s where the monsters lie
in the lair of the darkness.
Out in the open
that’s where the monsters lie
with a smiling mask on their faces.
The monsters under the bed
can be won over with time
if one overcomes’ their own demons.
The monsters out there
are the hardest to deal with.
Heartless monsters,
unpredictable predators,
lusting even on little children,
not sparing even their own blood,
always looking out for their next prey.
Evil sadists
sometimes trying to deny,
sometimes trying to justify their actions,
always destroying so many lives,
always evading the consequences.
P.S.-
It’s terrifying how most of us don’t feel safe even at our own home. It’s terrifying how most of us have been abused and were told to keep silent because no one wants any trouble, right? Everything is terrifying. No one is safe no where.

I just understand how their can be so many people who would do such awful things.

Excellent exploration of the darkness of abuse. Thank you for shining light. That’s exactly what the monsters and predators fear. 🤎

It’s terrifying indeed for those who are not safe in their homes especially now when there’s no where else to go. There are so many monsters hiding in plain sight. Beautifully written, Sonali ❤️🤗

Rightly said Sonali, they are evil sadists. It’s agonisingly painful if a child doesn’t feel safe in his/her own house. You have captured that anxiety and fear well.

Monsters are amongst ourselves. We only need to identify them prior to their bad deeds!

This reminded me of a book called 13 Reasons Why as the girl protagonist, Hannah did not feel safe in her home as a guy used to peep inside her home and tried clicking pictures.
Very emotional and profound!

It’s so sad and terrifying when one can’t even trust the people they call their own, and you portrayed that fear perfectly. Your posts keep getting better, especially the content. I’m so glad you decided to write about this. So so proud of you ❤❤

Once children’s fear of monsters could be considered figments of imagination – sadly, no longer

This poem is very interesting lovely because long ago, the monsters were easy to identify, at least that’s what I seen on television. Now they’re smarter, they wear mask, get jobs, move in next door and marry into families. They admit what they can’t deny and deny what they can’t admit and hide behind beauty. Whether it’s physical or mental abuse, back then or now…broken hearts or broken homes, the pain it causes can weaken the strong. This is amazingly on point and such a message, this and you are incredible.

I agree. With time, these devils have somehow gotten better at hiding themselves among us.
