“Promises are made to be broken,”
this is what you tell yourself,
only to put yourself
in a good light.
“I’ll always be there for you.”
Well, where are you now?
“You’re the only one for me.”
“I love you.”
A terrible, terrible lie.
“I’ll never let anyone hurt you.”
Well this one’s true in a way,
since you’ve hurt me
more than anyone else ever can.
You never kept any of your promises,
while I hung on every little word
that ever escaped from your lips.
There’s something I’ve got to confess though.
I broke a promise too.
I said I’ll never love anyone
more than I do you,
but guess what,
when I least expected it,
when I hit my lows real bad,
I fell in love!
I’m surprised too.
I never thought that it could ever happen,
but it did.
I fell in love with myself, you see.
And I’m sorry, but I’m not sorry
for breaking this one promise.
