Shattered Hope

You hear that sound?
That sound of something breaking?

I myself didn’t know what it was
but now that my tears have run dry
and my heart has gone numb,
I know exactly what it was that broke.

Hope.

That little hope that grew
deep inside my heart,
amidst all the insecurities and self doubt,
in spite of the darkness that I was within.

That hope of getting better.
That hope of being loved.
It’s all shattered now.
I have no hope left in me anymore.
